Unleashing the Midjourney Magic: A New User's Guide to Free Trials

When accessing Midjourney there is often one crucial first step that the guides forget to tell you.

You MUST have a Discord Account.

Discord is an engaging virtual platform where communities connect and communicate seamlessly.

Its server-centric structure allows like-minded individuals to gather, share ideas, and embark on adventures together. With the help of bots, Discord offers endless possibilities, allowing users to customise their experiences, automate tasks, and collaborate effectively.

It is very secure, so don't worry about signing up. This may be your first foray into the server world, and it can be overwhelming at first but don't fret. To gain access to Midjourney, you only have to know the basics of the app.

Signing Up to Discord:

You can use Discord on a mobile or desktop.

On Windows and Apple they have stand-alone desktop apps, and you can access the mobile apps via Google Play and Apple App Store.

I suggest completing your sign-up via the Desktop site.

It's just more straightforward.

Go to the Discord website in your web browser.

Click on "Login": On the Discord homepage, you'll find the "Login" button at the top right corner. Click on it.

Choose a sign-up method: Discord provides two options, either with a phone number or email address. Select the way you prefer.

Enter your information: You must provide your phone number or email address, depending on your chosen sign-up method. Fill in the required information in the appropriate field.

Create a password: After entering your phone number or email address, you'll be prompted to create a password for your Discord account. Make sure to choose a strong and secure password.

Complete the captcha: Discord may present you with a captcha to verify that you're not a robot. Solve the captcha by following the instructions provided.

Verify your account: Discord will send a verification code to the phone number or email address you provided. Retrieve the code and enter it in the verification field on the Discord website.

Customize your account: Once verified, you can personalize your Discord experience. You'll be prompted to choose a username and profile picture. You can also add additional information if you wish.

  1. Start the Midjourney Free Trial: Midjourney offers a free trial that includes 25 free image generations, providing a great introduction to generative AI.

  2. Create Images: As a free trial user, you can generate images in the general channels with other users. However, you won't be able to work solo by direct messaging the Midjourney bot. Be aware that with many users inputting prompts into the same Discord channel, it can be easy to lose track of your prompts and images.

  3. Be Aware of the Limitations: The free trial allows you to generate 25 free images. However, since Midjourney generates jobs in a 4-image grid, you actually get 100 images. You can crop your desired image from this grid by clicking "open in browser" and downloading the full-resolution image grid. Remember that these free credits can be used quickly as you become more familiar with Midjourney.

  4. Understand the Restrictions: If you're a business owner or employee, note that the Midjourney license does not permit the commercial use of images generated by free trial accounts.

  5. What Happens After the Free Trial: Midjourney will stop processing your prompts after your free trial ends. You can still view the Midjourney Discord and community website to see images created by other users. Plus, the images you generated during the free trial will remain available for download on your account page.

You have reached the end of my super easy guide to starting Midjourney.

I'd love to hear from you if you've tried it out - feel free to share your results in the comments. I'll be sharing my initial creations there as well.

Remember, mastering AI is like mastering any new skill - with practice and refinement, your images will evolve and improve over time.

If you found this blog post helpful, please let me know. Your feedback will encourage me to start working on the next guide, which will cover how to make the most of Midjourney's tools, understanding the various commands, and crafting the best prompts for your images.
